Astraea
Astraea is the Goddess of Justice. There is no certainty who her parents are but it is believed that they are either; Zeus and Themis or Theobe and Koios. She is often shown as a winged women carrying a torch and the Scales of Justice. The Scales of Justice are what she uses to weigh claims of those she is to judge.
She is often called the Star Maiden and is seen to have a quality of purity and innocence. She is compared to the Egyptian Goddess of Justice Ma'at. She weighed the souls of the dead by balancing the soul against a feather of truth. She determines weather they go to the Elysian Fields or the Underworld.
Astraea is also connected to Poetry and Literature. There have been many poems and stories about her, the most common ones being 'The Faerie Queene' and 'Paradise Lost'.
During the Golden Age it was the believed that the Immortals (Gods and Goddesses) lived among the mortals on Earth. As the myth goes in the Golden Age humans were at peace, there were no blood-shed, everyone lived long happy life, and they didn't have to work for anything. However, as everything has to come to an end, so did that age and a new age was born, the Silver Age. During the silver age people began to become increasingly more violent and ignorant. It was this that drove the Immortals from the Earth with their disgust with the Human race. One by one the gods left the destruction of humanity until only one was left. Astraea was believed to be the last Immortal to leave Earth and her inhabitants. Have stayed throughout the Silver Age and into the Bronze Age, Astraea was a beacon of light in the world that was slowly becoming darker and darker. During the Silver Age she offered hope as the violence begin to grow. Despite trying to overcome the wars and lead humanity to a more peaceful time again, there came a time where Astraea too had to leave this Earth. Soon after the beginning of the Bronze Age Astraea left Earth and ascended back to heaven, where Zeus took her and placed her among the stars. She is most commonly known as the constellation Virgo and just beside her is her Scales of Justice, the constellation Libra. From there she watches and hopes, but never interferes with the living. It is believed that as humanity once again turns toward peace and light Astraea will return, bringing the rest of the Immortals with her to live amongst Earths inhabitants.
